Interesting information and thank yo...Seeker1:11 PM
Interesting information and thank you for it!

But I have a complaint about how you display it. Hope you are not offended. I admire your work and talent.

You present rthis in a rather jocular way - you write, in my opinion, given the murders and possible genocide that was involved, foolishly about it.

But you have lots of company, this is a style we use even in text books.

The problem with the style, IMHO, is that the layers of cute bullshit prevents, or nearly makes it impossible, for the public less intelligent than yourself, less aware of the facts than you, to know what the hell was actually going on.,

Specifically your readers don't get the basics-- who was killing who, and why. Maybe they know already? Maybe not.

For example your "Barnburners and Hunkers erupted into schism " I suppose you inserted that, and I could be wrong, to show you know about those terms. Writers do this all the time --I do it. But it has a cost, and that cost is clarity.

Erupted into a schism is true enough, but more pressing and important is that the killers doing the killing in Mexico went right on killing, and the people they killed went right on dying. It’s like talking about a multiple murder by talking about the weather. Even if the weather was important, focus on the killers is more so.

This style avoids what actually happened. Slave power was killing as many Mexicans as needed to steal their land. People -- with names -- where doing things.

Did you know Mexican leaders were terrified of their citizens being annihilated -- with reason. The killing were unprovoked, and relentless. They were killed, then accused of attacking US – and more were killed – attacked for fighting back – and more were killed.

Polk was on a mission to kill enough people in Mexico that they would give us most of their land.

In fact, Some in South wanted more land that Polk was ready to take by murder.

US already had a history of genocide, and from Mexicans point view this could happen again. And they were right. The killing was going to go on, until they gave us the land we wanted. See more in newspapers at the time, ghastly stuff.

We do an injustice to the people killed, and to the simple transmission of information, by not knowing the Mexican War was started deliberately as a killing spree to quickly take much of Mexican land -- and that for slavery.

That is what it was, and most people knew it.

Polk thought –you may not know that -- that because he was able to bluff his way in taking Oregon, that a quick display of terror, and a macho attitude, would grab Mexican land too.

Mexicans did not give up so easily -- the British gave up quickly without a fight – there were hardly any British in Oregon anyway. Why bother?

There were quite a few Mexicans in Mexico -- a tiny detail Polk didn't care about, but soon found out.

And they were not interested in being killed in small or large numbers, in fact they took in personally.

It’s important to know this – the first killing sprees didn't give Polk what he wanted.

You probably knew none of this -- right?

US was killing, we were killing. They way you write "dispute erupted" What’s wrong – since we were killing and ready to commit genocide –with saying this candidly?

Killing is what happened. Killing to spread slavery is exactly what happened.

And that was the intent, as virtually everyone knew. Henry Clay and others admitted it, some in South boldly bragged about it and demanded more.

Thanks for doing this, my only problem with such cute BS -- even when such authors are correct enough, they write in ways that does not convey who was killing who -- and why.

I'd rewrite this to edit out the unintended insults, you do a fine job except for this. Keep up the good work.

Here is an example of my writing, I am not good at this. I wish someone would write it clearly and honestly without BS. It's not easy to do!

http://leepapers.blogspot.com/
Seekerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10206503506011763393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9506140.post-71740217680956484192018-11-05T13:11:25.092-05:002018-11-05T13:11:25.092-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Seekerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10206503506011763393noreply@blogger.com
