Via Metafilter, I stumbled across a site documenting 56 remarkable cartoons concerning the American Civil War drawn by British illustrator John Tenniel and published in Punch. Never heard of him? Well, I didn't recognize the name either, but you know his work: Tenniel did the original illustrations for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
The site contains high resolution photos of each cartoon, and there is an explanatory essay accompanying each. Well worth a visit.
