Hope

I was recovering some photos from an old computer and discovered these. Mollie Moo gave birth to Hope early on the morning of June 3, 2003. I missed the birth, arriving minutes too late. This is one of the first pictures I took, shortly after 6:30 a.m. Hope has not yet gotten to her feet (er, hooves):

Here is a close up. Mollie was prodding Hope to get up. For some reason, Mollie's principal strategy was to lick Hope's rear end:

At 6:45 a.m. Hope arose. She was a bit wobbly at first:

After a brief pause for a refreshment . . .

Hope received a congratulatory nuzzle from her mom.

Cowblogging

Mollie was her usual surly self:

Baby was nervous:

Others seemed less concerned:

When it was all over and the girls had been loaded on the van, Farmer Harry was happy:

So was Farmer Austin:

A Picture That Doesn't Suck -- And A Picture That Does

Harry called me Sunday evening and told me with some pride (although I don't think he's the father) that one of his cows had given birth to twins -- apparently a fairly uncommon event. Well, I rushed over and took a bunch of photos, all of which sucked, except for one. Here's the one that didn't suck:

Here, on the other hand, is one that did suck:
